pontape was originally released on carl coxs intec label back in 2002 and sold over 50000 copies worldwide. this led to renato playing at clubs around the world such as fabric, womb, space and i love techno among many more. renato cohen has remade his pontape original eleven years on, bringing new life to one of technos classic records. beginning with the immediately recognisable droning bass line that has become so synonymous with the release, cohen introduces a build during the middle section that gives the track a new depth second time around. alan fitzpatrick has been selected for remix duties

joseph capriatis remix of can you feel it is a funky techno track that uses stabs to really build a solid groove that will be a sure fire hit. the sandwell district remix of i feel it deep uses the original vocal in an ambient journey with pads and percussion to tell a story.

founding sound traveller dj patrique collaborates with clarence on one track to be released on the vinyl edition only. clarence brandon is obviously inspired by the detroit heritage as all tracks bear the soul of this influential city. by using an uplifting track build-up, forward moving rhythms and inspiring melodies, all tracks are well suited for the lovers of fine techno and house. gracefully placing subtle sounds but never loosing sight of the dance floor, clarence diligently produced the first ever physical sound travels release.

currently two of the busiest men in contemporary deep house, alex agore and james johnston have still found the time to establish their joint no matter what recordings as a potent outlet. this sixth release sees johnston at the buttons for sole control after a couple of split releases and the consumer ep demonstrates a further refinement of his own distinct brand of house music. arriving on transparent vinyl, lead track give him prozac sets the tone with a thick four note synth lead that accrues all manner of dreamlike analogue qualities as it progresses backed by those crisp rolling rhythms johnston is known for. columbo likes the nightlife takes things on a notably deeper path, all dubby chords and intricate skipping percussive touches augmented by epic sweeping textures, whilst face down and they had cocktails maintains the same feel if upping the pace somewhat. johnston ends strongly with the sublime analogue build of the sleepwalker.

for our third release, we are joining forces with bristol stalwart - kowton - finding the link between two genres that are very close to our hearts - grime & techno. built as an ode to ruff sqwads raw 2 da core, kowton is able to build up and take down the rough and rugged aesthetic that is found within both genres in just over 5 minutes. on the flip, taking on the original is blawan and pariahs collaborative project - karenn (sheworksthelongnights). keeping true to the spirit of uk techno, they manage to translate the raw and grimey quality of the original through a heap of analogue gear, all in one take.

the 4th and final sampler taken from swedish silver vol 2. patrick siech then steps up with the next track, kill room that also uses atmospheric percussion and stabs to build into a funky drum groove. the final track by cari lekebusch called xylopeggiator, conveys a dark, pounding 5 am rhythm that uses vocal samples and a melodic synth to create a hypnotic drum pattern

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. with *canyons* rivulet records releases another debut from a young artist. niklas krafts aka talski musical roots are basically jazz and freejazz and he is active as a saxophonist and keyboarder in some relevant combos like klinke auf chinch, eder or the niklas kraft quartett to mention only a few. as talski he presents his very own variation of deephouse. doleful chords, cheerful drums, sophisticated sample-work but mainly the sound of his analog hammonds and junos build up the charm of his tracks. it is hard to specify his sound but after all it ranges somewhere between electronica and deephouse. the danceable part of the ep is a classic deep-house remix produced by the leipzig based duo boytalk.

is it balearic hit their late 20s with another superb release - this time craig bratley steps up with analogue dreams. craig has earnt quite a reputation from only a handful of releases, including the weatherall favourite and classic cut >birdshell< on instruments of rapture. on analgue dreams, craig lays down a gently evolving, acid tinged piano slow burner, all mood and melody. first up on the remix we have the ever essential bonar bradberry who amps things up and takes a clonking bass riff down the disco for a real good time. on the flip crimea x pare the musical elements right down and build an epic remix from the raw ingredients, employing live percussion and shimmering synths. finally joes bakery dial down the tempo and incorporate some deft acoustic guitar and gentle moodswings alongside the musical elements of the original.

in their own words, like a radio-controlled mechanical, electro-mechanical and multifunctional musical instrument, berliner ring build up relentless and relentlessly different grooves in a characteristically non-direct way. as if playing around without focus they layer their tracks and slowly position them into form. the tracks featured here were originally released on cd on the art yard label. melodies are fragmented, often even sparse, the groove never stops, but does so with intervals and while changing focus. berliner ring references similar bands in the krautrock and post-rock genre, but it s subtlety, the originality of their self-built instruments and their songs that shift from downright groovy to more atmospheric explorations of ambience and texture guarantee them a unique voice and perspective. essential stuff.

in the 18 months since his brilliant debut release for we play house, luv jam has been steadily building his profile with a number of releases, and now he returns on vibrations with his first full ep of material since that auspicious first record. the eps a-side is a typically lush foray into stripped back, slo-mo house, with opener tough future utilizing little more than a 303 bassline and 909 kick to slowly build up to its raindrop crescendo, and >rubber band< employing a number a dreamy synths atop its tense, gurgling bass. the pace picks up on the b-side with >last floor hotel (mega mix)< upping the tempo and going into full on acid mode, with its furious pace accented with frenetic cowbell hits and industrial textures. the ep closes with >elastic band< a deeper excursion into jacking house, characterized by its flurry of handclaps, weighed up by its rubbery bassline.

medical records is ecstatic to present the reissue of the essential >novels for the moons< by axxess. originally released in 1983, axxess is the brainchild of french multimedia artist patrick mimran. mr. mimran was co-director of lamborghini motors (along with his brother) at the time and fittingly released the album on the imprint lamborghini records. heavily influenced by german electronic pioneers klaus schulze, tangerine dream, and kraftwerk, mr. mimran commissioned the german engineer andreas bahrdt to build a custom complex synthesizer which eventually materialized into a 16 voice analog synthesizer of genius proportions.

alden tyrell hooked up with mike dunn for some new work!. a golden combination which already worked out great as we learned from the heavy remix tyrell did for the murphy jax & mike dunn collaboration (its the music - cat# cjfd06). tyrell always jamming and playing around with his synths had some tracks inspired by early mike dunn songs. so the obvious happened ... the hooked up for some appropiate vocals and here it is ... touch the sky! a peak time acid monster with mikes vocal chant in the style of his classic md3 projects. gerd is on remix duty here and delivers a killer remix with a more traditional chicago groove and build up. clone head honcho serge had some studio time with tyrell for a dub mix. the serge & tyrell dub mix turned out a bit wild and became a classic piece of piano and dx bass driven chicago house music with stuttering vocal samples and a acidic synth line. another strong clone jack for daze!

ander-traxx is a fresh label operating out of glasgow with the intent of releasing righteous underground house, and although mainly a platform for the labels founder alex-ander to showcase his own productions, ander-traxxs remit also includes the presentation of unknown talent for future releases. for this first release, alex steps up to the plate to deliver because of me, followed by 3 remixes from artists born and raised in glasgow. the original kicks things off with its intro of glacial pads and jittery hats, before quickly delving into a seriousely deep groove brimming with melodic layers. although because of me gives a strong nod to the recent developements of producers like omar s and kyle hall, it undoubtedly has the hallmarks of an alex-ander production, his unique arrangements coming to the forefront while still complimenting the crisp percussion that drives the track forward. carlos nilmmns (co founder of the formidable solab production unit) mix is a much more off-kilter and submerged affair. nilmmns plays down the epic quality of the original and adds chugging rhythmics and sweetcured piano work for a lesson in divine repetition. mesumas feedback mix goes in for the dancefloor attack, not surprising for a gentleman whos previous work has seen releases on hardgroove and seventh sign. rolling toms and a booming kick meet aquatic vocal samples and spectral harmonicas, and will still please those partial to deeper sounds. last up to give because of me the rework treatment is meschi (lunar disko, lux, snuff traxx), who mixes his chicago influenced analogue stylings perfectly with the source material. stripped down crescendos build up to a euphoric drop, and meschis elated melodies bring another twist to this excercise in deep funk. because of me is one of those rare e.ps that works just as well in a non-club enviroment as it does on the dancefloor. with this warning shot, alex-ander will surely be capturing the ears of many in 2012 and beyond.
